A Selbyville fire Monday that sent one to the hospital was deliberately started, according to the Delaware State Fire Marshal's office.

Harry Miller, chief deputy state fire marshal, said he could not release any additional information surrounding the ongoing investigation including who might have set the fire and motive for doing so.

Around 7:20 a.m., fire crews from Selbyville, Roxana, Frankford and Bishopville as well as Sussex County Paramedics responded to calls of a car on fire in a garage with occupants still in the home, according to a Selbyville Fire Company Facebook post.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire conditions in the garage and smoke throughout the building. The fire in the garage was extinguished, and crews checked for extension and occupants.

The sole occupant was found outside the home and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation, according to the post.

Crews battled the fire for two hours, and the scene was turned over to the Delaware Fire Marshal's office for investigation.

Damage was estimated to be around $75,000, according to a state fire marshal's release.
