Wichita Adult Literacy Council, Inc. (WALC) is a 501 c3 non-profit agency. Approximately one in four adults functions at the lowest literacy level. WALC volunteer reading tutors teach adults to read and write. Some tutors work with their students on preparation for the US Citizenship test and other educational or job readiness pursuits. There is no charge for student services.
WALC tutors don’t just help adults learn to read better. Improved reading skills enable adult learners to better navigate routine daily activities, succeed on the job, attain additional training or education, and help advance parenting skills as adult learners become more involved with their children’s school activities.
