Aadhaar should not delink food with poor: Guv

Governor Droupadi Murmu today asked regional officers to become sensitive towards needs of the poor, especially the supply of food through Public Distribution System. She said that Aadhaar linking should not be an obstacle in food availability for the poor.

Taking cognizance of media reports of alleged hunger deaths in the State, the Governor today convened a review meeting with Food, PDS and Consumer Affairs department Secretary and Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner at Raj Bhawan on Tuesday. The governor gave several instructions to the officials asking them to be receptive while working for the poor.

The Governor clearly asked officials to ensure that no person dies in the State for want of food. She asked officials posted at the regional level to be alert and aware of the ground realities and make available food to the poor and needy. She instructed the department officials to mark those poor families who have not yet received their ration cards and distribute them the cards as soon as possible so that they do not face any problem in getting food items.

Instructing the officials the Governor said that Aadhaar linking should not be made an obstacle in PDS food availability. She said that each Panchayat should have grain banks in the State so that food-grains are available all the time.

While discussing about digitization work of the PDS system, the Governor instructed officials to ensure that tribal resident and poor people do not face any problem in procuring their ration cards due to online application process for PDS.
