Poland 1 – 2 Senegal
Poland is the favorite going into this match. But in a World Cup that's been full of surprises thus far, Senegal pulled off an upset like only they can. Up 2-0 an hour in the Lions of Teranga played great in the back, staving off Poland's offense.
Senegal is now in a first place tie with Japan in Group H. The two face each other in their next match Sunday morning.
Senegal got on the board in the 37th minute on an own goal. Poland defender Thiago Cionek inadvertently knocked in a Senegal shot from Idrissa Gana.
Senegal's second goal was just as strange. In the 60th minute, M'Baye Niang had just been waived back onto the field after leaving for an injury. He immediately charged down a ball, poking it past Poland keeper Wojciech Szczęsny and ran it down to score on an empty goal.
Grzegorz Krychowiak got one back for Poland on a brilliant header from a free kick. But the 86th minute tally came too late for Poland to muster anything else.
