Social media calls DMK’s steps to fix pavement ‘shoddy’

CHENNAI: Even as DMK MLA J Anbazhagan posted photos, on Twitter,  of the patch-up work carried out on damaged portions of the pavement along Poonamallee High Road on Monday, netizens were far from happy.

A day after the social media uproar over DMK party banners and flags damaging the pavement from Ega Theatre to Koyambedu, Anbazhagan wrote on Twitter, “Our team has successfully repaired the damages in some areas & making sure no damages has been left without repaired. We regret for inconvenience caused, I also made sure contractor will not repeat it again. Thanks (sic)”

However, netizens have raised objections to the ‘shoddy’ patch-up work carried out by the party members, instead of offering a long-term solution. “This is exactly what I don’t appreciate & I knew will happen. You have broken granite slabs & replaced it by filling with concrete which at best is a patch up job. Will you do the same thing if a marble slab was broken in your house? Or replace the entire marble? Public vandalism!” tweeted a user.

“..This cement plaster will not stick for a single rain (sic),” posted another user While one section of netizens hailed the DMK leader for coming forward to fix the damages, another thrashed the work done, demanding the replacement of the damaged portions of the granite and for the responsible cadres to be booked under Public Property Damages Act.

The social media uproar began on Sunday, after party flags, serial light hoardings and banners leading up to a DMK meeting in Anna Nagar as part of the ‘Kalaignar 95’ celebrations damaged portions of the pavement, said to be laid only recently.
