Coimbatore: Unidentified people on Monday broke open a house at Balaji Nagar in Malumichampatti and looted 34.5 sovereigns of gold ornaments.
According to police, K Duraisamy, 52, and his wife Shanthi were living in the house on the outskirts of the city. Duraisamy works at Ellam textile unit at Malumichampatti and Shanthi is a government school teacher at Vadapudur.

“On Monday, Duraisamy left for work around 3.30pm. When his wife returned home around 4.45pm, she found that the lock of the front door was broken. She rushed inside the house and found gold ornaments, including two gold chains totalling about seven sovereigns, a necklace of three sovereigns, and gold bangles of eight sovereigns, as well as a diamond ring were missing,” said a police source. Subsequently, Shanthi informed the Chettipalayam police.

They reached the spot and conduced inquiry. Fingerprint experts lifted prints from the house and a sniffer dog was pressed into service. Based on Duraisamy’s complaint, the police registered a case and formed a special team to nab the burglars

The miscreants might have noticed the movements of the couple and used the one-and-a-half-hour gap to rob the house, the police source said.
