The BJP on Tuesday pulled out of the alliance with the PDP citing an increase in terror activities, radicalization and violence in the state. The three-year-old alliance survived several setbacks and conflicts between the two parties during its existence. Here is a look back at the rift points between the two alliance partners -

  • When – March 1, 2015 – Press conference after the swearing-in ceremony of Mufti Sayeed

  • When – March 7, 2015 – Release of hardline separatist leader Masrat Alam
  • What - The BJP said the decision was not a part of Common Minimum Programme (CMP) on the basis of which the alliance government is being run in Jammu & Kashmir but PDP differed, insisting that it is in tune with the CMP. BJP swiftly cut that bid short, with Mufti forced to scuttle the decision.

  • What – “Uska ilaj hai goli” — because “laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahi maante” (those who do not listen deserve to be kicked), said Chander Parkash Ganga, J&K minister for industries and commerce. Ganga’s remarks were echoed by at least two BJP ministers but drew an angry reaction from partner PDP which said his “disgusting utterances” and “sickening and intimidating statement against Kashmiri youth” were not only “unbecoming of a senior minister” but also fraught with danger.

On much pleading by the PDP, the Centre delayed its response in the Supreme Court on the matter. In October last year, the Centre said the hearing in the case should be adjourned as it may affect the work of its representative for holding talks in J&K, who had just been appointed.

Amidst furore and accusations of support for the rape accused, CM discusses PDP's options.
