The sixth generation BMW M5 needs no introduction. It’s neck-snapping fast, very comfortable, features the brand’s latest technology and is the first M5 ever to be offered with all-wheel drive.

Tuned by BMW’s M division, the xDrive system isn’t cutting back on the car’s drifting abilities, but rather enhances them, making the driver look good in the process.

Nonetheless, the video that we’re about to present isn’t showing the all-new M5 drifting on some track. Instead, it depicts it on the German Autobahn, in a no speed limit zone.

You may be asking yourselves why bother with a top speed run, since we already covered it here. Ah, but this video shows the new M5 doing a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) sprint in just 3.2sec, or 0.2sec faster than BMW’s official numbers.

The eyebrow-raiser time is then followed by the 0-200km/h (0-124mph) run in 11.3 seconds, a couple of tenths slower than BMW’s own numbers. Shortly after, the car hits the 300km/h (186mph) mark and eventually maxes out at 310km/h (193mph).

The top speed is possible due to this car being fitted with the optional M Driver’s Package, which lifts the 250 km/h (155 mph) electronic limiter and allows it to hit 305km/h (190mph). The top speed appears to have been measured via GPS, as the M5’s speedometer indicates 312km/h (194mph).

If these readings are accurate, what does it mean? A glitch in the matrix, more power than what BMW says, or an engine with a bit more power, as engine output in each engine can vary a bit from the maker’s official claims?
