JDP’s Jharkhand bandh peaceful

The daylong Jharkhand bandh called by Jharkhand Disom Party remained largely ineffective in the State barring a few attempts of road blockade and detentions in East and West Singhbhum of bandh enforcers. Life remained normal in the State Capital as schools, business establishments and other services functioned normally.

Long distance buses and rail transportation also remained usual with deployment of heavy force and constant vigil of the police. In the wake of Statewide bandh the State Police had alerted SPs of all districts and had asked for deployment of extra forces to stop the bandh enforcers.

In the Capital City forces were deployed at several locations to stop bandh supporters, however no political outfit or organisation came out to enforce bandh.

In Jamshedpur activists of the tribal outfit JDP took to streets in various areas like Karandih, Parsudih and Sundernagar in favour of the bandh. The party workers raised slogans against the State Government.

Tribal outfits Adivasi Sengel Abhiyan and Jharkhand Disom Party called Jharkhand bandh in protest against approval of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Jharkhand Amendment) Act, 2017.

Meanwhile, East Singhbhum district administration was active enough to put the police on alert owing to the bandh. Cops of Rapid Action Force (RAF) were also deployed in the city to keep a vigil look on the bandh supporters. In Sakchi, an important commercial area, RAF personnel remained intact till the evening to ward-off any unpleasant incident.

Tribal leader Salkhan Murmu said that the ‘bandh’ is ‘token strike’ against the act. There is nothing in the act to ensure rights of the adivasis and their water, land and forest resources he added.
