In the first match, after losing to Uruguay, Egypt will play against Russia tomorrow in an event which will simultaneously be a commercial happening with ads in stadiums with series of hashtags introduced on social networks including ”#thisisegypt” and ”#investinegypt”.
Also, FIFA selected the country as an African regional supporter for the World Cup via an agreement signed with government agency ”Egypt – Experience & Invest”. ”Being the official supporters of the World Cup – said Sahar Nasr, the Egyptian minister for investments and international cooperation – gives us the possibility of promoting ourselves and communicating the great diversity of possible investments and the potential Egypt has to offer”.
In Russia, tourism and investments are key to the Egyptian campaign. The tourism ministry has recently hosted a new website for the occasion (www.egypt.travel/worldcup) and the banner ‘This Is Egypt” along the perimeter of soccer fields and on large screens in stadiums.
Also, the campaign is continuing on the most well-known social networks like Snapchat and Facebook, as Egyptian tourist attractions are being promoted on maxi screens in Russia during matches also played by Germany, Spain, Poland, England, Scotland and Wales.
