THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The deadline issued by the state police chief to senior officers to send their camp followers back to their parent units ended on Monday evening, with most officers complying, even as chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan proclaimed in the assembly that the ‘colonial-era’ practice of constables being used as domestic help at the homes of the top brass “will be eliminated”.

The state’s police force has been caught in a controversy after ADGP Sudesh Kumar’s daughter allegedly assaulted his official driver. The ADGP was removed from the post of chief of Battalions last week.
