Vadodara: A day after a video went viral on social media in which an elderly woman is seen tied with a rope and beaten up by a women and a man, Sankheda police in Chhota Udepur district arrested the duo on Tuesday. The accused are the elderly woman’s daughter and grandson, who had beaten the woman on June 11 allegedly because of her rude behaviour.
Police said that the victim, Bali Bariya, is mentally challenged for the past several years because of which she has the habit of hurling abuses at everyone in the house. On June 11, Bali, who lives with her daughter Bhavana Bariya, asked her to give her lunch. When Bhavana told her that food is being cooked, Bali started abusing her daughter.

In the video, it is also seen that Kalpesh throws his grandmother out of their house. Police said that since that day, Bali has been missing from the village.

Bhavana’s brother-in-law then called Bali’s nephew Arvind Bariya, who lives in Narmada district, to find his aunt. Later when Arvind enquired with his contacts in Velpur, he received the video of thrashing on his mobile phone. Arvind went to Velpur on Monday to confront Bhavana about the incident. She admitted that she was tired of her mother’s behaviour therefore she and Kalpesh thrashed her.

Arvind then went to Sankheda police station and gave a complaint against his cousin and his nephew. The police have booked Bhavana and Kalpesh for assault and criminal intimidation.

Police said that because of her behaviour, Bali’s husband had also divorced her 25 years back.
