HYDERABAD: Hyderabad MP and Majlis-e-Ittehad ul Muslimeen (MIM) supremo Asaduddin Owaisi has  received threats from social media accounts that had also issued threats to Kashmiri  journalist Shujaat Bhukari, who was shot dead last week.

A tweet from one of the Twitter accounts read: “Dear Asaduddin Owasi, good that you’ve shed your cloak of being a friend of Kashmir and Kashmiris. From now on, for us, you are no better than a Modi or a Shah.”

In another tweet with Asaduddin’s photograph on Twitter, one ‘Muneebulislam @muneebulislam16’ said that Asad Owaisi is lying that there is no violence in Kashmir.’

This comes after the MP taking a stance in support of the Union government which rejected the UN report on human rights violations in Kashmir.  Following this, a complaint was lodged by Owaisi’s cyber cell team, and Twitter India has blocked some of the offensive tweets made on an account.

“Just like the slain editor Shujaat Bhukari got threats from social media accounts on June 8 Asaduddin is also getting such threats from certain netizens from Kashmir. I informed to Twitter India, Hyderabad police and national cyber cell officials to look into the issue by verifying whether this accounts are fake or based out of Rawalpindi, Sopore, or Delhi,’’ said Syed Abdahu Kashaf, head,  social media, AIMIM.

A few accounts have been suspended, some accounts were blocked and the  police have asked the MIM leader to provide more details, he added.
