BAMAKO, Mali — A civic association in Mali says soldiers have killed at least 25 civilians in the central Mopti region.
Ibrahim Thiokari of the Fulani association Tabital Pulaku says Malian soldiers came to Nantanka last week and killed and buried 25 men.
Al-Qaida and Islamic State-linked extremist groups operate in central Mali, where the military has carried out counterterror operations.
A resident says soldiers detained several men on June 13, releasing all but 25 Fulani men. The resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear for his security, says soldiers killed the men days later. He says residents found three different graves about 7 kilometers (4 miles) away.
Mali’s government confirms the graves’ existence and says it will investigate. The army chief of staff is visiting the area.
