PATIALA: Dhuri police station SHO Gurpartap Singh was suspended on Monday for allegedly beating up a Youth Congress leader
Mithu Ladda on Saturday evening.
Confirming the development, Sangrur SSP M S Sidhu said action had been taken against the SHO as they had received a complaint regarding manhandling of Ladda at the Dhuri police station.
Ladda, along with his supporters, had gone to the Dhuri police station, seeking release of a woman and her minor daughter hailing from his native village. The duo were rounded up by cops after a woman constable was injured. According to police the woman and her daughter had attacked with bricks the woman constable, who was part of a police team deployed during demolition of a ramp constructed outside the house of one Satnaam Singh of the Ladda village.
When contacted, SHO Gurpartap said they had arrested the woman Manjit Kaur for attacking the police team members while they performing their official duty. He said her minor daughter had also thrown bricks at the cops. The girl was produced before a local magistrate who sent her to the child protection home at
Jalandhar and her mother Manjeet was placed under arrest after registration of a case against her, he added.
The SHO said the Congress leaders started mounting pressure on the police to immediately release the woman and sat on a dharna in the police station. As the
Congress leader did not allow the cops to enter or leave the police station, the situation got tense, he added. However, Gurpartap denied having beaten up the Congress leader.
On the other hand, Ladda contested that the cops had registered a false case against Manjit and her minor daughter and such maltreatment of a woman could not be allowed. He alleged that cops attacked him in full force and dragged him inside the police station where he was thrashed and illegally detained. Later, Dhuri MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy reached the police station and got him released. On Sunday, the
district police transferred the SHO to the police lines and on Monday he was placed under suspension.
