After birthdays, rowdy-sheeters face police raids

HUBBALLI: The Hubballi-Dharwad police conducted surprise checks on the residences of rowdy-sheeters on Monday morning and seized lethal weapons and narcotic substances. The raids were conducted at 42 locations. The operation, which began at 5 am, went on till evening.

The police said searches were necessitated after a few rowdy elements in the twin-cities celebrated their birthdays by cutting cakes with swords. The videos of the incidents went viral and police were at the receiving end for not taking action against the rowdy elements.

“As of now, we have seized approximately 2 kg of ganja, several knives, air guns and other lethal weapons. The houses and ‘adda’ belonging to rowdy sheeters Allauddin Nadaf in Dharwad and Amit Koravar and Parshuram Koravar in Hubballi were raided by the police team,” said a senior police officer.
In one of the houses, the police team found police uniform and police beacon. In Anand Nagar in Hubballi, the police conducted raids on houses of Saleem Ballari and Husenappa Anchatageri and seized machetes and knives. Allauddin was involved in a murder case and four attempt to murder cases, whereas Saleem was involved in 12 thefts. Another man Madan was wanted in an attempt to murder case, sources said.

The police are investigating other cases. The also said they would not allow rowdy elements to make the twin cities their base. “We have decided to extern some rowdies who were involved in serious crimes,” said Police Commissioner M N Nagaraj.

Police arrested Shailesh Harivan, Abhishekh Harivan, Kiran Shinde and Amresh Shinde from Hubballi during the raids. They are wanted in multiple crime cases.

Five raiding teams

Police Commissioner M N Nagaraj had formed five teams for the raids, which included DCPs Renuka Sukumar, B S Nemgouda, ACPs H K Pathan and N B Sakri. As many as 300 police personnel were involved in the raids.
