Rajkot: An 18-year-old Pakistani woman Heena Ramiz Shaikh and her in-laws were attacked allegedly by her mother and cousins on Monday for marrying Ramiz Shaikh (22) from Junagadh against wishes of her family.
Heena, her brother-in-law Ejaz and her father-in-law Yusuf Shaikh were injured in the attack and were admitted to the Rajkot Civil Hospital on Tuesday for further treatment.

Police have arrested Heena’s mother Najma and her cousins Hanif alias Batli Ali Mohammad, Sarfraz Ali, Sohil alias Rojdo. They have been booked for rioting and assault with sharp-edged weapons.

According to case details, Najma, a resident of a village near Talala in Gir-Somnath district had married a man from Pakistan and got the citizenship of the neighbouring country.

However, after she had a dispute with her husband, Najma came back to India in the year 2005 with her daughter Heena, who was born in Pakistan, on a long-term visa.

Four months ago, Heena married Ramiz against her mother’s wish. They both had come in contact when they were living as neighbours in the Gir-Somnath district.

According to an FIR registered with the A-Division police station of Junagadh city, Heena’s mother had threatened Ramiz against marrying her daughter. Najma along with her nephews Hanif, Sarfraz Ali and Sohil came to Heena’s house in Junagadh looking from Ramiz but he was not home. They then allegedly attacked his family members. When Heena intervened, she too was brutally attacked with knives and sharp-edged weapons.

Police inspector of Junagadh A-Division police station K N Gamit said, “Najma was arrested in 2016 for the violation of visa rules. She had visa of Gir-Somnath district while she was found in Junagadh district. She was out on bail and her visa too has expired. She has already applied for renewal and the application is pending with the collector’s office.”
