Notre Dame College Police Chief Jeffrey Scott is settling into a new leadership endeavor.

In addition to overseeing the college’s police department, Scott recently assumed duties as president of the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police and will serve for one year as the organization’s top administrator.

Scott, who is a 19-year Ohio law enforcement veteran with over 25 years of service in public safety, is the first college police chief in Ohio to hold this honor and office, according to the news release.

“It is a humbling honor to be the leader of this organization,” Scott said.

He was sworn in to the position by Ohio Attorney General Michael DeWine at the annual OACP Training Conference.

The OACP is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to continuing professionalism and innovation among police executives in order to assure the continued success of the law enforcement community.

Scott said he will establish goals, strategies and plans for the organization, while implementing the vision.

“Law enforcement is going through a transition right now,” he said. “We have found some departments are really struggling and I want to help chiefs and their departments.”

As president, Scott is striving to provide cutting-edge training and guidance to police agencies, he added.

Scott has served as a police officer, community policing officer, sergeant, training sergeant, captain and ERT commander for several law enforcement agencies throughout Ohio. He operates his own training and consulting firm Law Enforcement Training and Tactical Institute and is very active in teaching basic to advanced level firearms, as well as tactical response to active shooter events and critical level incidents, the release also states.

Scott is an Ohio certified law enforcement instructor as well as a state and nationally recognized lecturer in a wide variety of law enforcement topics.

He completed special training at the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy in Quantico, Virginia; hosted a diversity training called Racial Intelligence Training and Engagement and was selected be a part of the National Football League’s initiative to tackle social injustice issues.

“What can we do better today? That’s a mantra I live by as a police chief,” he said, “There is always room for improvement and all of us should be asking ourselves what can we do better.”
