TRICHY: Trichy has been ranked 79th on the list of 87 smart cities, chosen on merit basis across India. The Union ministry of housing and urban affairs on Tuesday released the smart city ranking list. “Most of the cities in desirable positions such as Coimbatore (rank 14) and Ahmedabad (rank 3) were selected under smart city mission in round 1. Whereas Trichy was selected in round 3, a reason why Trichy has fared comparatively a low score than cities listed in round 1,” a senior official with the Trichy Corporation said.
Stating that all the projects proposed under the smart city mission were progressing, corporation officials asserted that implementation of smart city projects would begin in August.
Officials said 18 projects – at an estimated cost of Rs 1,200 crore -- were underway in the Trichy smart city mission.
“All the projects under smart city mission are progressing, and we are constantly in discussion with the consultants,” the official added.
