Athlete of the Year: Brimonet Buggs, sr., DeKalb

Cierra Kuipers, sr., Kaneland – Kuipers was second in the state in the pole vault with a jump of 11 feet, 6 inches. Her season-best was a mark of 12 feet, and she was the champ of Kane County, the Northern Illinois Big 12 and the Class 3A West Aurora Sectional.

Izabella Cleaveland, fr., Hinckley-Big Rock – She made the transition to distance running midway through the season and qualified for state in the 3,200. She finished 24th with a time of 12:47.3 in Class 1A.

Kylie Feuerbach, so., Sycamore – During her first trip to state, Feuerbach, a three-sport star for Sycamore, tossed the discus 115-3 to take sixth in Class 2A.

Emma Gerwig, so., Sycamore – The pole vaulter qualified for state and established a new school record at 9-7. She was the team’s MVP for earning the most points for the team over the course of the season.

Gabby Janes, sr., Genoa-Kingston – Janes cleared 5-1 to make the state tournament in the high jump. She also ran sprints and did the long jump for the Cogs.

Hannah Kirby, jr., Sycamore – Kirby was one of four Sycamore athletes to qualify for the girls track and field state meet. She finished third in the 800 at sectionals with a time of 2:20.92.

Kmaris Kirkwood, sr., DeKalb – The older Kirkwood sister led off both medal-winning relay teams for the Barbs, including the 4x100 and 4x200. She had season-bests of 12.78 in the 100 and 25.08 in the 200.

Michiah Kirkwood, so., DeKalb – The younger Kirkwood sister ran the second leg of the 4x200 relay team for the Barbs, which was second in the state. She also had a season-best 25.12 in the 200.

Alison Kramer, sr., Genoa-Kingston – After qualifying for state last year, Kramer had an injury-plagued 2018 but still posted times of 17.04 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 49.18 in the 300.

Cierra Kuipers, sr., Kaneland – Kuipers was second in the state in the pole vault with a jump of 11 feet, 6 inches. Her season-best was a mark of 12 feet, and she was the champ of Kane County, the Northern Illinois Big 12 and the Class 3A West Aurora Sectional.

Sierra Long, sr., DeKalb – Long came home with a couple of medals from the state tournament – she was seventh in the 400 (56.89) and was part of the 4x100 relay team that took second in the state.

Sophie Melton, jr., Sycamore – She finished only 0.02 seconds behind qualifying for the second day of the state tournament in the 800. She finished the state race in 2:22.2.

Katherine Olsen, jr., DeKalb – Olson took 11th in the 1,600 at state in 4:58.99 and was sixth in the 3,200 with a 10:42. She also had a season-best 59.98 in the 400.

Kyra Ozier, so., DeKalb – Ozier was a key piece to DeKalb’s relay teams. She was part of the second-in-state 4x100 relay, and was crowned a state champion on the first-place 4x200 relay. She also qualified for state in the 200.

Rachel Richtman, jr., Kaneland – Richtman was 12th at state in the 3,200, clocking in at a school-best time of 11:07.4. She was the conference champ in the 3,200, as well.
