BENGALURU: Seeking to tighten the noose around irrigation minister DK Shivakumar, the income tax department on Tuesday filed fourth case of tax evasion in the economic offence court following which Justice M S Alva summoned him on August 2.

The I-T officials had earlier filed three cases against Shivakumar pertaining to three income tax assessment years from 2015-16 and the income tax department had charged him with attempting to destroy “crucial” evidence during I-T raids on him at Eagleton Golf resort on the city outskirts on August 2 last year. Among the charges framed against him is that Shivakumar had torn a loose sheet on which he had allegedly entered some financial transactions, and later regretted it.

Now, the I-T department has filed the fourth case pertaining to the subsequent assessment year (2018-19) based on Rs 8.5 crore unaccounted money found at various places during raids. It is said that the money was found at the premises belonging to Shivakumar’s confidants- Sachin Narayan, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Anjaneya Hanumanthaiah and Rajendra. They have been accused of recording false statement during questioning as the I-T officials have contended that the accused had admitted that the money belonged to Shivakumar and latter retracted from the original statement. The cases have been booked under sections 277, 278 of Income Tax Act and sections 193, 199 and 129 (B) of Indian Penal Code.
