Chhota Rajan aide arrested by Pune police crime branch in Deven Shah murder

Pandit Agarwal, an aide of underworld don Chhota Rajan, was arrested by the crime branch of the city police in the murder case of Deven Shah, a city-based builder. The arrest was made in the late hours of Tuesday. Agarwal will be brought to Pune from Delhi where he was detained initially, according to Sameer Shaikh, assistant commissioner of police, crime 1.

"We caught him in Delhi. He will be brought to Pune. We will share further details tomorrow," said ACP Shaikh.

Shah was shot dead outside his Prabhat road residence around 11:30pm on January 13. An initial case was registered against two assailants at the Deccan Gymkhana police station.

The initial arrests in the case were of Ravindra Chorge and Rahul Shivtare. Later, a man named Surendra Pal was arrested by the local police for aiding the two.The case was later transferred to the Pune police crime branch, headed by Pankaj Dahane, deputy commissioner of police, crime.

The prime suspect in the case was identified as Sunil Rathore who was booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the last week of March for plotting the builder's murder. He was booked along with five others.

While the police are on the lookout for Rathore, the arrest of Agarwal may shed light on the details of the motive behind the fatal attack.
