Tokyo: Stocks open lower on US-China trade jitters

[TOKYO] Tokyo stocks opened lower Tuesday, with investors jittery over US-China trade tensions as US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 10-percent tariff on US$200 billion worth of Chinese goods.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index fell 0.43 per cent or 97.89 points to 22,582.44 in early trade while the broader Topix index was down 0.39 per cent or 6.88 points at 1,764.55.
