Ramneek Kaur Mahal was not sure if she would pass the AIIMS MBBS 2018 examination.

The 18-year-old was on cloud nine on Monday after securing the third rank in the entrance test held for admission to All India Institute of Medical Sciences in nine cities, including New Delhi, across the country.

“I was not expecting even to pass the AIIMS examination as I found it very tough but now when I have bagged AIR (all-India rank) 2, I cannot describe my happiness in words,” Ramneek, who bagged AIR 10 in NEET 2018, said.

Ramneek, who is from Punjab’s Bhatinda, said she owed her success to her hard work and regular studies. She said she prepared notes regularly, cleared doubts from faculties and focussed on National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) books.

The daughter of Dr Amanjeet Singh Mahal, a medical officer in a government hospital, and gynaecologist mother, Ramneek got 97.6% marks in Class 12 board exams held by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which she appeared for this year along with NEET and AIIMS exams.

She said she was a classroom student of Aakash Institute’s Bhatinda branch and also took the distance learning programme of Kota-based Allen Career Institute. She also credited the local tutors of Bhatinda for her success.

Ramneek, who likes to read books, play the guitar and paint, said she would like to study neurosciences.
