An Elkader motorcyclist and a dog riding in the bike’s sidecar were both injured after a sports-utility vehicle rear ended the motorcycle at the intersection of Highway 13 and Highway 100.
According to a media release from Linn County Sheriff’s Office, at roughly 5:55 p.m. emergency responders were dispatched to a personal injury accident at the intersection.
Once there, deputies and other emergency responders determined that Mark Koehn, 61, of Elkader had been traveling north bound on Highway 13 in a Harley Davidson motorcycle when he stopped for a red light at Highway 100. Then, according to the release, a Cadillac Escalade driven by Jennifer Burlage, 38, of Delhi failed to stop in time and hit the back of the motorcycle.
Koehn was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, according to police, and he was transported to Mercy Medical Center by Area Ambulance. for treatment of what police to be “non-life-threatening injuries,” according to the release. A dog riding in the sidecar of Koehn’s motorcycle at the time of the accident also received “minor injuries” and was transported to the Eastern Iowa Veterinary Specialty Center for treatment.
Burlage had been wearing her seatbelt during the accident, according to the release, and she was not injured. She was cited for Failure to Stop in an Assured Clear Distance, accoring to the release.
In addition to Linn County Deputies and Linn County Sheriff’s Rescue, other agencies responding to the scene included the Marion Police and Fire Departments and Area Ambulance, according to the release.
