A fight during a cricket match led to the murder of a 22-year-old youth at JC Nagar in Mahalakshmi Layout police station limits on Sunday evening.

BENGALURU: A fight during a cricket match led to the murder of a 22-year-old youth at JC Nagar in Mahalakshmi Layout police station limits on Sunday evening. The deceased is Manikanta alias Doddakaatu, a resident of Srirama Nagar in Mahalakshmi Layout. He was unemployed and an accused in a dacoity case registered in Mahalakshmi Layout police station.

Police said Manikanta had gone to play cricket with a group of friends in JC Nagar around 4pm on Sunday. During the match, he allegedly fought with a player of the opponent team over a trivial issue and assaulted him. The assaulted youth then told his friends about the incident.

“Around 6pm, a gang of four to five armed assailants attacked Manikanta in JC Nagar with lethal weapons and fled the scene. Manikanta died on the spot. We have detained a few people in this connection,” a police source said.
