Vadodara: Chandramohan Shrilamanthula, a former student of the fine arts faculty at MS University (MSU), who is currently in jail for setting fire to the MSU head office in February, applied for bail in a sessions court here on Monday. Chandramohan, who faces charges of attempted murder and destruction of public property, had applied for bail earlier as well, but had been turned down.
Chandramohan requested the court to grant him bail as police have submitted a chargesheet in the case. In his bail plea, Chandramohan told the court that police registered the case on the basis of a fabricated incident. His bail application also stated that he never intended to harm anyone, because had a plastic gun with him.
Chandramohan told the court that his trial in the 10-year-old case for allegedly hurting religious sentiments is still going on and the two cases have no connection, yet police mentioned it in the chargesheet. He also said that he has cooperated with the in investigations and will abide by all conditions if granted bail.
His plea will come up for hearing on Tuesday. Chandramohan, who was arrested on February 2 from the university’s head office, was denied bail by the sessions court on February 12. He had later approached the high court, but had withdrawn his bail application.
On February 2, the fine arts student allegedly showed a gun to the vice-chancellor’s personal assistant Jaykumar Nair, poured petrol in the waiting room and set it ablaze.
