Politics intensifies as BJP defends Land Bill

Following President Ramnath Kovind’s assent given to the Land Acquisition amendment Bill sent to him and different political parties in Opposition slamming the provisions thereafter, the BJP on Sunday came out in open endorsement of the legislation. Holding a press conference Jharkhand BJP president and MP Laxman Gilua alleged the Opposition for misleading the people for their vested interest.

“Opposition parties are misguiding people of the State on the Bill which has been thoroughly passed by the Assembly and sent to the President for his approval. The Bill is about to become Act in the State which would safeguard the interest of the tribal, moolvasis and raiyats here. Provision for four times compensations to the land looser is into the Bill. Also in the scheduled areas the land can be taken only on permission of Gram Sabha. Most important thing is that the land can be taken only for Government purposes and not for any capitalist,” said Gilua while inviting the Opposition for an open debate.

JMM, JVM and Congress ever since the information about the approval has come have taken a hard stand and threatened about protests and agitations across the State. They in one voice termed the provisions anti-tribal and anti-farmer “meant only to land grabbing on the behalf of the corporate houses.” A meeting of different social organizations and political parties has been called at the residence of JMM leader and LoP Hemant Soren on Monday to finalise their future course of action.

The BJP president at the same time slammed patthalgari terming its current purpose against the society and the State and also against the Constitutional provisions.
