PATNA: Four bike-borne criminals shot dead a junior engineer near Hariyabara on NH-57 under the Town police station area in Araria district at around 10pm on Sunday. The deceased, Ramvilas Mahto (30), was posted with the local area engineering organization (LAEO) in Narpatganj block from where he was returning home on his bike after finishing the day’s work.
Police sources said Mahto belonged to Ranchi in Jharkhand. His body was sent to Araria Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

A special investigation team has been formed under Araria SP Dhurath Sayli Sablaram to nab the criminals. “The police got the information about the incident around 10.07pm. Mahto succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital,” Araria SDPO Devendra Singh told this newspaper on Monday. “Police have retrieved some documents from Mahto’s possession,” he added.

Police sources said there was no CCTV camera installed near the crime scene.

The SDPO said it was a planned attack. “According to the documents retrieved from the body, he had gone to Bhagwan Tola to inspect the development work in the area. The police are also questioning the people Mahto met on Sunday,” he said.
