CUTTACK: The Burn, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery department of SCB Medical College and Hospital will soon boast of world-class ultramodern facilities.

An infection-free modular operation theatre (OT), intensive care unit (ICU) and ramp will come up at the unit within three months to provide comprehensive treatment and care to burn victims. The Central Government has allocated `1.77 crore for construction of the infrastructure.

After inspection and survey by Executive Engineer of Roads and Building Division MR Khan, foundation for these ultra-modern facilities was laid in presence of Dean and Principal of SCB Siddharth Das, Superintendent Prasanna Kumar Debata and senior Professor of Plastic Surgery department Arun Kumar Choudhury.

Considering the increasing inflow of burn patients and difficulties in providing advanced treatment and care, SCBMCH authorities had been demanding for upgradation of the unit with ultramodern facilities
“Apart from these facilities, a skin bank will also be set up at the Burn, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery department with a corpus allocated by the State Government,” said Prof Choudhury. This will be instrumental in the treatment of severely burnt patients, he said and added that these facilities will be operational within three months.

The authorities of SCBMCH are also planning to increase the number of beds at the burn unit soon, sources said. Currently, a maximum of 15 patients can be treated at the unit.
