Simon Barnett says wife Jodi 'responding really well' to radiation therapy

Simon Barnett has updated More FM listeners on his wife Jodi's health while broadcasting from a new "in-home" studio.

Jodi Barnett is "responding really well" to radiation therapy for a malignant brain tumour.

An upbeat Simon Barnett updated his More FM breakfast show co-workers and listeners on Monday morning, telling them that his wife was "doing really well" two weeks into her treatment.

Rushed to hospital in late April after suffering a seizure at her Christchurch home, Jodi Barnett was diagnosed with two lesions on her brain.

Despite a successful "significant" brain operation last month "that couldn't have gone better", tests showed she required further treatment which included radiation therapy for six weeks and then six months of chemotherapy.

Speaking from a newly installed home studio at his house in Christchurch, Simon Barnett again reiterated how "enormously grateful" he and his four daughters were for all the "love, cards and prayers" they had received.

Describing his new set-up as "the way of the future", Barnett said he was currently sitting at home "in my Cars pyjamas and 'Best Dad Ever' slippers", while his wife and two of his daughters, Sophie and Sam, watched him talk.

Simon Barnett now has an in-home studio in Christchurch to allow him to broadcast while his wife Jodi undergoes radiation therapy.

He admitted he had already made a couple of jokes about "going to work" at their breakfast bar and that, "I don't have far to go the toilet, which is great at my age".

Having taking over the household chores while Jodi recuperated ("I told the girls, there's a new sheriff in town"), Simon Barnett said he hold already told her that she needed to "complain a lot more".

Fed up with tissues being left in pockets, dirty cups being put in the clean part of the dishwasher and the amount of laundry in general, he said he had already instituted a fine jar, started leaving notes and detailing the list of jobs he had completed at the end of each day.

Simon Barnett has been on extended leave from his More FM show since the end of April.

"Then they [his daughters] feel really bad about being so useless. They've started to change already," Simon Barnett laughed.

While there was no discussion of if or when he would return to work in a greater capacity, he said he would report in again tomorrow, suggesting he could have a regular spot on the show.

A Mediaworks spokesperson later confirmed that Barnett would be "dialling in on a regular basis" to provide updates while Jodi underwent her treatment.
