Nagpur: Members of Pawankar family, which had lost four of its members last week in a gruesome attack, took out a protest march on Monday blaming police for lackadaisical approach in arresting the accused, Vivek
Palatkar. The protest march was held from Samvidhan Chowk to Nagpur police commissioner’s office where the family submitted a memorandum of demands to CP K Venkatesham.
Besides Kamlakar Pawankar, his wife, mother and daughter, Palatkar had also killed his four-year-old son with a heavy and sharp weapon on June 11 at Aradhana Nagar.
The Pawankars claimed that they are not able to sleep at night fearing that Palatkar will target their home. “Every morning we hope that there should not be another night, as we fear that Palatkar will knock on our door,” said Bhushan Pawankar.
The family said cops have failed to provide them proper protection. “We had asked for police protection at two of our houses till the time Palatkar is arrested. Instead of making us feel safe, the police are providing us security on alternate days and only after our requests each day,” said Prachi Pawankar.
It is learnt, cops had approached Pawankar family to not take out a protest march. The police claimed 12 teams are on the job to nab the accused.
Police teams have been fanned out to religious places like Shegaon, Shanishingnapur, Katra and others following information that Palatkar is a religious man and worships Kali Mata. Palatkar used to live in a rented house in the city and would introduce himself as a lecturer named Suresh Jeebkate.
