MADURAI: The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Monday denied anticipatory bail to two lawyers who were accused of engineering the anti- Sterlite protests in Tuticorin.
The advocates, Hari Raghavan and Vanjinathan, practising in Tuticorin and Madurai, respectively, are district secretaries of the Makkal Adhigaram (people’s authority) outfit.

Police had registered more than ten cases against them.

When the lawyers’ bail petition came for hearing on Monday, Justice G R Swaminathan dismissed it and said they could not shy away from police interrogation.

Thirteen people died when police opened fire on anti-Sterlite protesters on May 22 and May 23.
