Brazil Says JCPOA Should Remain Inviolate

The Brazilian government believes the US decision to pull out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, or JCPOA, was not right, its ambassador to Tehran said, adding that the country will only follow United Nations’ resolutions and not decisions of countries.
In an interview with Mehr News Agency publish Sunday, Rodrigo de Azeredo Santos said his country always supports “political solutions to international problems and does not believe in hostile or aggressive policies as its history demonstrates.”
In response to a question regarding Brazil’s reaction to the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran, the senior envoy said his government believes that the JCPOA should remain inviolate and it will do its best to preserve trade with Iran despite the risk of US sanctions.
“For us the JCPOA is still valid. We follow the United Nations’ resolutions. We do not follow countries’ unilateral decisions,” he said.
Regarding the South American country’s relations with Tehran, he said, “We have very good relations with Iran. We also have very good relations with the US, but we think they are not right on this issue. We would like to follow the JCPOA.”
