Implementation of Smart City projects to begin by mid-2019

Thiruvananthapuram: Giving a fresh impetus to Smart City projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi, the state government has set new timelines for their execution. In a review meeting convened by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Monday, it was decided that projects under Kochi Smart City Mission will go into execution mode by March 2019 and for Thiruvananthapuram, the timeline has been set at May 2019. According to central government guidelines, Smart City projects ought to be executed by 2020.
Projects to the tune of Rs 660 crores which are now in tendering stage will switch to implementation mode in three months. As of last May, detailed project reports (DPR) of 42 projects were being prepared, 11 projects have been tendered and one work has been awarded in Kochi.

The first three steps ahead of implementation of Smart City projects in the first module are expected to be completed by August end.
