2018 Daily Chronicle Boys Track and Field All-Area Team
Athlete of the year: Clayton Hannula, sr., Kaneland

Tristan Bujarski, sr., DeKalb – Bujarski concludes his career as a two-time team MVP, sprinting on the varsity level for three years. His best finish in the 100 was 10.8 seconds, and he competed on both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays for all three seasons. He qualified for state during his sophomore and junior years.
Aidan Donohue, so., DeKalb – Donohue stepped up during his sophomore season, competing in the 800 and 1,600. He also was part of the 4x800 relay team, which recorded its best finish at 4:23.4.
Drew Gould, sr., Kaneland – Gould took home top honors in the 110 hurdles at the Kane County meet, while placing second in the event at conference.
Drew Hahn, jr., Kaneland – Throughout the season, Hahn and Clayton Hannula formed a reliable one-two punch in the shot put. Hahn took third in conference with a personal-best of 48 feet, 10.5 inches.
Jake Hansen, sr., Genoa-Kingston – Hansen was a rare four-event athlete who scored the most points for the Cogs and was awarded team MVP. The senior captain consistently surpassed 20-6 in the long jump and 41 feet in the triple jump. Hansen earned the prestigious Harry Henigan Award as the best overall G-K athlete, voted on by all of the Cogs coaches.
Riley Marks, jr., DeKalb – Marks solidified his place as one of DeKalb’s top mid- and long-distance runners. He participated in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200, recording a personal-best 4:27.7 in the 1,600.
Stephen Poorten, sr., Sycamore – Poorten dominated the long-distance competition in the area. He had multiple first-place finishes in the 3,200 with a personal record of 9:28.24. He was one of seven Sycamore athletes to qualify for state.
Matt Richtman, sr., Kaneland – Richtman concluded his career as a four-time all-state athlete. He owns the 1,600- and 3,200-meter run records with times of 4 minutes, 17.92 seconds and 9:14.96, respectively. Richtman finished eighth at the state track and field meet in the 3,200 during Kaneland’s first year competing in Class 3A.
Tremaine Thomas, sr., DeKalb – Thomas was a scoring machine for the Barbs in the field. The all-conference selection recorded leaps of 21-3 in the long jump and 43-1 in the triple jump.
Trey Wideman, sr., Sycamore – Wideman was a state qualifier in the discus. He owns a PR of 171-1.
Grant Wilk, sr., Kaneland – Wilk was one of the top vaulters in the area. He was a state qualifier in pole vault, in which he placed 10th, after claiming a pair of second-place finishes at both the sectional and conference meets.
Lucas McCay, jr., Riley Melton., sr., Jacob Jovanovich, so., Jake Carani, sr., Sycamore – The Spartans’ 4x800 relay team qualified for state and had its best time of 8:05.34.
