The Andhra Pradesh police said on Monday that they are not investigating a prostitution racket in the United States, allegedly run by an Indian origin couple by luring some Tollywood actors.
Federal agents busted the sex trade a few months ago and the couple have been in their custody since then. The Tollywood actors association discussed the matter in Hyderabad.
The Telangana police are reportedly investigating the background, activities and contacts of the businessman, who has produced a few Telugu films, and his wife in India, a senior police officer said.
“The scandal is in no way related to the State,” Director General of Police M. Malakondaiah told The Hindu.
Asked whether the couple had trapped any actor or junior artistes from Andhra Pradesh, the DGP replied he had no such information.
“As of now, we did not find any link between anybody in Andra Pradesh and the prostitution racket. If any investigation officer seeks our help, we will cooperate”, he added.
Nevertheless, speculation is rife over the involvement of some Telugu actors in the racket.
