A heat advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for northwest Ohio, according to the National Weather Service. The heat index will be near 100 degrees from late morning until early evening. Heat stress or heat-related illnesses are possible, especially for the elderly and those sensitive to heat. NWS recommends those in the advisory area drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.

While Northeast Ohio is not under a heat advisory, residents should be aware of the heat and humidity expected today. A high temperature of 91 is in the forecast, with heat index values near 96, according to NWS.

That’s ahead of showers and thunderstorms after 10 tonight, which will bring the temperatures down into the 70s and low 80s the rest of the week.

There will be a moderate risk of swimming hazards for the beaches from Fairport Harbor, Ohio, to Ripley, N.Y., through tonight, according to NWS.
