Japan does not confirm deaths until a formal examination has been made and generally uses the term cardiopulmonary arrest in such cases. Public broadcaster said an 80-year-old man and a 9-year-old girl had been killed by collapsing walls after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit Osaka.
