MUMBAI: Two helmetless teenagers on a scooter were crushed to death under a truck loaded with cement on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway at Virar on Sunday night.
Mandar Hande (19) and Rohit Sakpal (18) were part of a group of seven who went for a ride. The residents of Tanaji Nagar, Kurar village, were headed to Vajreshwari in Bhiwandi. Mandar was riding the scooter. When they reached Shivansai village, the truck driver, Vinay Satvi, lost control of the vehicle at a turning. The truck crashed into the scooter, killing the teenagers on the spot. Their friends returned looking for them when they did not reach Vajreshwari.

Locals handed over Satvi to Virar police, who booked him for causing death due to negligence. A case of accidental death was registered. Police said the boys were thrown a distance away with the impact of the crash. Satvi blamed the accident on a faulty air brake pipe. TNN
