Fight between 2 cricket teams ends in murder

BENGALURU: A fight broke out during a local cricket match at Mahalakshmi Layout and resulted in the murder of a youth on Sunday evening. The incident took place at a ground on 5th Cross in JC Nagar, Kurubarahalli, west Bengaluru.

The deceased is Manikanta alias Dodda Katu, 22, a resident Srirama Nagar in Mahalakshmi Layout. Manikanta was facing several criminal cases in Mahalakshmi Layout police station.

Police said preliminary probe revealed his rival team members had murdered him.

There was a clash between two teams while they were playing cricket in the afternoon. Manikanta had assaulted some members in the ground. They left the spot, but ganged up to take revenge against him.

At 6.30pm, they attacked Manikanta with cricket bats and machetes, killing him instantly. “We’ll question all the team members to know what exactly happened during the match,” police said.
