A Canal Winchester man was arrested after a Canal Winchester woman came to the New Albany Police Department on June 7 and told officers she was a victim of domestic violence and assault.
She told police the alleged offenses occurred in her vehicle, which at the time was being driven by her boyfriend.
The woman said her boyfriend threatened her with a knife while they were in the vehicle on Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road just south of the police station, 50 Village Hall Road, said Sgt. Garrett Fernander. She got out of the car and went to the station, he said.
Soon after, the boyfriend came to the station's lobby, where he was detained, Fernander said. Police interviewed the woman, her boyfriend and a witness.
Although the boyfriend denied having a knife, about a half hour after interviewing him, police found a knife in New Albany Market Square that belonged to him, Fernander said. Investigators believe it was thrown from the car.
Officers arrested the 31-year-old Canal Winchester man and charged him with simple assault, aggravated menacing and domestic violence.
He was transported to the Franklin County jail.
