One dead, 20 injured as bus turns turtle in Uttar Pradesh

One passenger died while at least 20 others were injured when a bus on way to Varanasi from Allahabad turned turtle near Bihada border under Mirzapur police station area of Varanasi early on Monday morning, police said.

Inspector at Mirza Murad police station Avnish Kumar Rai said the bus, associated with the UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) on contract, had on board several aspirants of UP police recruitment examination.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver suddenly felt sleepy and lost control over the vehicle as the bus reached near Bidaha border. Further investigations are on,” Rai said.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the death of an aspirant and instructed the district authorities to ensure proper treatment to all the injured passengers.

Police said Mohammad Aqeel of Allahabad died in the mishap while the injured passengers were shifted to government hospitals in Jakhini and Kachawan areas and those with minor injuries were taken to a hospital in Kabir Chaura.

Two passengers who sustained grievous injuries were admitted to the trauma centre at BHU hospital.

Police said the all the injured passengers were in their early 20s and added some of them were identified as Deepak Yadav, Manish Kumar, Swapnil Kumar, Prateek Vishwakarma, and Saurabh Rai.
