Exploring the darker shades of society and changing
gender dynamics, a play ‘The Intimate Liaisons’ was recently staged in Noida. The story revolved around a rape case. Filled with twists and turns, it brought out important questions for society. The play has grey
characters and depicts the reality of society. Written and directed by Kanupriya, the play is choreographed by Guncha Dwevedi.
The play discussed various human relations
Talking about the story and how they prepared for it, Kanupriya said, “It's not just a different topic, but the cast and crew needed to be prepared for the emotional implications of the play. It also needs a mature audience to understand the messages hidden in the story. Rape, prostitute, bisexual, BDSM - they are all big words; and I have tried to create an intricate story without glamourizing any aspect.”
The play tried to picture the mentality of a man who hates women
CK, who played the character of Rajan, said, “For someone who has been brought up among six sisters and a doting mother, playing a character that hated women was an extremely difficult task. It was difficult to look upon any woman with that disdain. I had to lock myself within and create that hatred to prepare for the role. I was afraid that I will become Rajan. It was painful being him. Thankfully, I survived.”
