At least for one day, Tiverton had a very special guest serve as chief

TIVERTON — The Tiverton Police Department has a new chief, and he’s the youngest in the department’s history.

As part of a fundraiser sponsored by the Tiverton School Department and the Pocasset Elementary School parents-teacher organizations, youngster Ryan Olson was named Chief of Police for the Day, the department announced on its Facebook page Thursday.

According to the post, Chief Ryan greeted the officers at roll call and handed out coins to each of the officers on shift.

“There are bad guys out there and I want to give you this to make sure you stay safe,” Chief Ryan said.

He also made a stop at Dunkin’ Donuts, his favorite breakfast spot, before heading to school.
