KOCHI:In the quest to carve out a rightful place for the third gender, following their success in landing government jobs and the sports field, the transgender(TG) persons in Kerala have now set their sights on making further inroads into the high-visibility beauty industry. After the run away success of  last year’s maiden TG beauty pageant, the organisers are focused on providing a ‘déjà vu’ experience through the  ‘Queen of Dhwayah- 2018’ beauty contest.

The glam event at the CIAL convention centre at Nedumbassery here on Monday will witness the contestants being put through the beauty, intelligence and social consciousness rounds. It is being organised by Dhwayah Trangenders Arts and Cultural Society which works with the transgender community in the state. The group’s mainly aims to help the TG persons develop their creative talents, provide job training, organise  stage shows and fashion events with  celebrities and  dance recitals. Unlike the other pageants, ‘Queen of Dhwayah’ is not just about beauty and looks alone. Rather, it aims to integrate the ‘third’ gender into mainstream society.

According to the organisers, ‘Queen of Dhwayah’ could well prove a game changer in society’s perception of the TG community and indeed can help erase the stigma attached to them. Also, the pageant will provide them with an avenue to showcase and develop their artistic talents, they said.

Actor Mammootty  will be the chief guest, with top names from  Mollywood, including Mamta Mohandas, Amala Paul,  Rima Kallingal, Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, Nadiya Moidu, Padmapriya and Jayasurya scheduled to attend.
