CHENNAI:
Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convict A G Perarivalan’s mother
Arputhammal on Sunday said she would write to the to the central and
Tamil Nadu governments soon seeking euthanasia (
mercy killing) for herself and her son “to end our agony.”
“I will write to both the governments, seeking mercy killing for myself and my son. I will send the letter soon after consulting with my son’s advocates,” she told TOI.
“There is no meaning in endeavouring the pain if the government is not willing to set my son free,” she said citing the Centre’s decision not to release the life convicts in the
assassination case.
Arputhammal, 71, said her husband Kuyildasan (alias) Gnanasekaran’s health condition had deteriorated after he had learned about the Centre’s decision. He was happy and his health improved when their son came home on parole last year. But the recent development undid everything and devasted their hope of their son's release.
“We have been suffering since the arrest of my son at the age of 19 in connection with the former PM’s assassination case. My son has been suffering physically and psychologically behind the walls of the prison for the last 27 years. We have been suffering outside the prison all these years,” she said.
