Roger Federer makes SHOCK Nick Kyrgios claim ahead of Wimbledon

Federer beat Kyrgios 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 yesterday to reach the Stuttgart Open final and regain his world No 1 crown.

But the Australian was troublesome throughout the clash and came agonisingly close to causing a huge upset.

Kyrgios showed glimpses of his undoubted potential and Federer was impressed with how his opponent played.

The Swiss star is hoping to win his ninth Wimbledon title next month but he now fears that he could lose out on the honour to Kyrgios – who has never before been past the quarter-final stage.

“A lot is possible. A lot of the guys are very good, especially on the grass,” Federer said. 

“I think his [Kyrgios’] game is really good, very big.

“So you would think that Wimbledon is also a chance for him to do very well there, maybe win it.”

Federer is now looking to continue his momentum against Milos Raonic in the final of the Stuttgart Open this afternoon.

He will then play at the Halle Open next week before Wimbledon – where he has laid out his plan to reach the latter end of the tournament.

“The challenge for everybody who wants to win a Grand Slam is to keep it together for two weeks, maybe three weeks,” Federer added.

“Not getting injured, not getting sick. Keep your level energy up.

“Try not to waste too much energy or drop too many sets in the first week, to make it easier to win in the second week if you like.”
