THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After many twists and turns, the Centre’s Smart City Project being implemented by Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation has finally entered the implementation phase.
In a new development, the project management consultant (PMC), a consortium comprising of IPE Global Limited and Delhi-based Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated, has submitted an inception report with the corporation council regarding the fast track projects that will be undertaken in the first phase of Smart City.

According to corporation authorities, the PMC had presented a preliminary assessment report and based on the same it has been asked to carry out a  situation analysis report, feasibility study report and detailed project report on the fast-track projects. The time frame that has been allowed for the PMC to complete the activities is three months.

It was on April 27 that a technical advisory committee (TAC) meeting convened at the Mayor’s chamber identified the fast-track projects that will have to be carried out in the first quarter (June-August) of the Smart City project.  While the PMC came out with 10 projects, the TAC added two more to the list and asked the former to complete them in a time-bound manner.

Some of the fast-track projects that will be undertaken in the first-phase include, smart bus shelters, public bike sharing, e-autos, multilevel car parking, sustainable campuses, smart schools and others. It is learnt while working on the time-bound completion of the 12 projects, the PMC will also concentrate on medium-term projects that require extensive stakeholder consultations.
