PATIALA: The death of an 11-year-old boy of Samana, who was found hanging inside his house on Friday evening, is still a
mystery for the cops. While the family has alleged that a maternal uncle of the boy murdered him and hanged his body inside the house, the
police said the matter was being verified.
The deceased has been identified as Gurbaksh Singh. The family members, including Gurbaksh’s parents, had gone to attend a cremation ceremony on the day of the incident. When they returned home, they found the child hanging to a hook in a room of the house.
The father of the deceased, Kuldip Singh, who works as a labourer, told cops that when everybody was out to attend the cremation ceremony, only the maternal uncle of Gurbaksh was there in the house.
The police said Kuldip had lodged the complaint with them on Saturday and levelled allegations against the maternal uncle of the child.
Kuldip told police that his wife’s real brother was at home when Gurbaksh allegedly hanged himself. He added that Gurbaksh’s maternal uncle did not like him and in past had beaten him many times.
As of now, police too are suspicious over the claims of suicide committed by the 11-year-old.
“We have not found any suicide note from the body. The child was not mature enough to take this extreme step,” the cops said.
“We are investigating the matter. There are no clues that can give any indication that the child, who was class five student, committed suicide. It may or may not be a murder. The body of the child has been handed over to the family members. The report of postmortem is awaited,” the cops added.
The report would highlight several things, including strangulation before hanging. As of now, as case under relevant sections of the
Indian Penal Code has been registered in this regard,” said investigating officer Baljit Singh.
